Burkina Faso’s Crime Rate Expected to Decrease to 7.23% by 2025

Ouagadougou: The crime rate in Burkina Faso fell from 7.85% to 7.23% in 2025, a decrease considered significant, said Security Minister Mahamoudou Sana on Friday in Ouagadougou, during the first ordinary session of 2026 of the Ministerial Sector Administrative Council (CASEM).

According to Burkina Information Agency, this development reflects the efforts made by various actors in the department in the fight against insecurity and the implementation of actions planned during the past year.

The activity report for the period ending December 31, 2025, also highlights generally satisfactory performance. The document indicates a physical completion rate of 97.62% for planned activities and an estimated financial execution rate of 86.95%.

The session allowed participants to evaluate the actions carried out in 2025, but also to examine the program of activities for the year 2026.

For this new year, the Ministry of Security intends to strengthen the synergy of actions between the Internal Security Forces, promote the interoperability of systems, and improve the coordination of interventions in order to ensure optimal coverage of the national territory.

Minister Mahamoudou Sana also stressed that his department intends to place the general interest at the heart of all actions planned for 2026.
