Ouagadougou – In Burkina Faso, the National Anti-Fraud Coordination (CNLF) has issued a reminder to taxi drivers and transporters that state-subsidized gas cylinders, ranging from 1 to 12.5 kg, are strictly for household use. This clarification was made during an awareness meeting in Ouagadougou, aimed at preventing the misuse of these resources in commercial or industrial operations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the national anti-fraud coordinator, the regulation is based on article 3 of joint decree no. 20224-003, dated February 6, 2024, which outlines the butane gas price structure and sets prices accordingly. Kafando emphasized that these cylinders are subsidized by the state to help ease the economic burden on households, not for profit in business settings or for export.

The session addressed the ongoing issue of gas cylinders being used inappropriately within the commercial sector. “Before taking any enforcement action, we prefer to educate the community to ensure they understand and comply with the law,” stated Kafando. He highlighted that while there have been instances of misuse, the primary approach of the CNLF is to encourage voluntary compliance through awareness.

Omarou Kiéma, president of the national federation of taxi drivers and transport workers, expressed support for the CNLF’s respectful and communicative approach. Kiéma assured that he would actively promote adherence to the regulations among his peers, reinforcing the importance of respecting the intended use of subsidized gas cylinders.
