Burkina Faso’s CNAMU Strengthens Health Worker Capacities in Guiriko for RAMU Implementation

Ouagadougou: As part of the operationalization of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU) in Burkina Faso, the National Universal Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU) organized a training session on RAMU management tools for health workers in the Guiriko health districts on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The training took place in the Dafra and Do health districts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is part of the ongoing implementation of the RAMU (Universal Health Coverage) and aims to improve the quality of healthcare services for insured individuals. It has strengthened the capacity of healthcare workers regarding the tools used to deliver care within the RAMU framework, while also seeking their support for the successful implementation of the system at the health facility level.

During the session, participants were trained on the mechanisms for managing insured individuals, the use of technical management tools, and the procedures related to providing care within the RAMU framework. Discussions also focused on best practices to be consolidated, building on the achievements of the existing healthcare system.

According to Dr. Mohamed Ouattara, the chief medical officer of the Do health district, "We brought together the heads of the various health facilities to train them on the Universal Health Insurance Scheme. We are building on what was already working well in the health system," he explained.

He added that the main objective of this training is to ensure that "these managers are well-equipped to relay the information to their staff so that the implementation scheduled for February 1st is a success."

Through this training, the CNAMU reaffirms its commitment to supporting health actors for the effective operationalization of RAMU in service of the population.
