Burkina Faso’s Cadet Stallions Triumph in U17 UFOA-B Tournament


Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – The Cadet Stallions of Burkina Faso celebrated their victorious return to Ouagadougou on Wednesday evening after winning the West African Union of Federations Zone B tournament for under-17s (UFOA-B).



According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister in charge of Sports, who greeted the team at the Ouagadougou international airport, the Cadet Stallions’ achievement has significantly uplifted the spirits of the Burkinabè people. He conveyed the congratulations from President Captain Ibrahim Traoré and expressed the government’s pride in the young players, their management, and the supporters. Team captain Badra Ali Barro, alongside coach Oscar Barro and Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF) representative Papy Dagba, were among the first to disembark the plane, presenting their trophy to FBF President Lazare Banssé, who then showcased it to Minister Savadogo.



Coach Oscar Barro attributed their success to favorable working conditions and dedicated preparation, noting the team’s commitment despite the nation’s challenges. FBF President Lazare Banssé commended the Minister of Sports for his support and foresight in strengthening the team’s technical supervision, expressing optimism for future achievements across all categories.



Minister Savadogo highlighted the Cadet Stallions’ performance as a beacon for other teams and outlined plans for further preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (CAN) and potential World Cup qualifications. He affirmed the government’s commitment to providing necessary resources for the team’s preparation and success.



This victory marks the first time the Cadet Stallions have won the UFOA-B tournament, improving upon their second-place finish in 2022. They defeated Côte d’Ivoire’s Eléphanteaux 3-1 in the final, with Achraf Tapsoba scoring twice, making him the tournament’s top scorer with five goals. The team now looks forward to the CAN in Morocco in 2025.
