Tenkodogo: The Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations of the Center-East region of Burkina Faso has trained more than 300 members of the ‘Wayiyan’ on civic-mindedness, patriotism, and effective communication during times of war. The training session, held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, aimed to strengthen the role of the Wayiyan in supporting the government’s efforts to regain control of the national territory.
According to Burkina Information Agency, mission officer of the President of Faso for the Center-East region, the training will help citizen watch leaders better understand and communicate on the ground, contributing to the national defense effort. Kamboné emphasized that being Wayiyan is about supporting President Ibrahim Traoré’s government in its mission to reconquer the national territory.
Trainer Adama Amadé Siguiré stressed the importance of communication during times of crisis, encouraging the development of a narrative that supports the country’s defense and security forces. Fellow trainer Boukary Nebié emphasized the need for proper organization within the Wayiyan, comparing their role to that of the revolutionary defense committees, and cautioned against uncoordinated actions that could undermine the movement.
Governor of the Center-East region, Colonel Aboudou Karim Lamizana, welcomed the initiative, noting that the training would help channel the energies of the Wayiyan to ensure their missions are effectively carried out.
