Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Tourism raised awareness among tourism entrepreneurs on Thursday in Ouagadougou about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for a more competitive industry on the national and international markets. “These discussions with entrepreneurs aim to equip them with CSR skills so they can perform better nationally and internationally,” said Director General Monique Ou©draogo/Ilboudo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the General Directorate of Tourism (DGT) initiated this awareness workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the benefit of tourism entrepreneurs, as part of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC). Ms. Ou©draogo spoke on Thursday in Ouagadougou at the opening of a workshop to raise awareness of CSR among tourism entrepreneurs. She also explained that Burkina Faso is going through a difficult period and it was necessary to exchange with accommodation and catering promoters, travel agencies, economic operators, and tourist guides to improve the quality of their services.

“When we talk about CSR, we also talk about the quality of services. Through this workshop, we are able to improve staff working conditions and company productivity,” said Monique Ou©draogo/Ilboudo. According to one of the presenters, Nelson Congo, the discussions will focus on two themes, the first of which concerns the “Nomenclature of Tourism Companies” and the second concerns “The Interest and Implementation Processes of CSR within Tourism Companies.”

Mr. Congo, also an expert in CSR communication, pointed out that the tourism sector ranks third in economic terms worldwide, after hydrocarbons and the chemical industries. He also noted that this sector employs a lot of workers who do not require a certain level of background. “All the risks, all the problems of the tourism sector can be resolved within the framework of CSR. This is why the Burkinabe tourism administration has chosen this theme, which rhymes with that of the JEPPC,” he said.

The first phase of the 2025 edition of the JEPPC is being held from March 26 to April 9 with the theme “For order and discipline: I commit myself!” Nelson Congo also noted that the awareness workshop focuses on the challenges of the management approach of tourism businesses.
