Burkina Faso to Upgrade 55 Health Centers Across All Regions as Part of New Presidential Health Initiative

OUAGADOUGOU — In a bold step to enhance healthcare infrastructure, the Burkinabè government announced plans to transform 55 Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) into communal medical centers, covering all 13 regions of the country. This initiative, launched during the weekly Cabinet meeting, marks a significant escalation in the country's healthcare capabilities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, who is in charge of Communication, this transformation represents the initial phase of a broader four-part presidential initiative aimed at bolstering national healthcare services. This move will upgrade the existing facilities into communal medical centers, ensuring more comprehensive medical services across the regions.

The second component of the initiative includes the construction and equipping of five new anesthesia-resuscitation departments in several hospitals. Additionally, the government plans to establish a heart institute at the Tengandogo University Hospital Center, further enhancing specialized medical care. Minister Ouédraogo highlighted that the final element of this healthcare overhaul involves making molecular diagnosis technology for breast cancer accessible nationwide.

This comprehensive initiative reflects the government’s commitment to addressing critical healthcare needs rapidly, as emphasized by Minister Ouédraogo. It aligns with President of Faso’s vision to rapidly mitigate healthcare deficiencies and improve service provision across Burkina Faso.
