OUAGADOUGOU - the country will participate in the upcoming celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua, set for July 19, 2024. This announcement was made during a weekly government session in Ouagadougou under the presidency of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the government spokesperson, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, highlighted in his report that Burkina Faso’s participation aims to further enhance the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation with the Republic of Nicaragua. Last year, a delegation from Burkina Faso, led by Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem of Tambela, attended the 44th anniversary ceremony in Managua. This continued engagement marks a significant step in Burkina Faso's international diplomatic efforts.
The Sandinista Revolution, which occurred in 1979, was a pivotal moment in Nicaragua’s history, leading to substantial economic and social reforms. Despite facing challenges such as an American embargo and a media campaign against it, notably involving alleged doctored images by France’s Le Figaro, the revolution remains a defining event in Nicaraguan history.
