Burkina Faso to Launch Its First Kidney Transplants in Late 2024

OUAGADOUGOU – Burkina Faso is set to perform its first kidney transplants in the second half of 2024, marking a significant advancement in the country’s medical capabilities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the preparations for these transplants are well underway, following the recent establishment of the ethics committee for transplantation and organ donation. This newly formed committee is tasked with ensuring the transparency and coordination of organ donation, collection, and transplantation processes. Its responsibilities include maintaining up-to-date registers for donations, collections, transplants, and grafts, while also ensuring the health safety of patients and adherence to medical ethics.

This development represents a crucial step for Burkina Faso in building its healthcare infrastructure and providing critical medical services domestically that were previously unavailable.
