Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, announced plans to build "citizen centers" throughout provinces and departments, aiming to provide digital services to the population. This announcement was made during the opening of the 20th edition of Digital Week, themed "Artificial intelligence at the heart of digital transformation."
According to Burkina Information Agency, President Ibrahim Traore stated that these citizen centers would serve as spaces where young people, supported by the state, could offer digital services to the population using necessary tools. The ministry responsible for Digital Transition is already working on this project under the president's directive. Traore emphasized the importance of these facilities, noting that they would allow citizens to access digital services as needed.
The President highlighted the necessity of a digital revolution for Burkina Faso to advance its development on the international stage. Traore stressed that digital technology is essential for progress in sectors such as health, education, security, and defense. He mentioned that combating corruption requires the digitalization of various sectors and assured that the country is actively pursuing this path with the establishment of data centers and digital applications.
Traore also voiced concerns about Burkina Faso's data being hosted abroad and noted efforts to achieve digital sovereignty. Minister of Digital Transition, Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, added that artificial intelligence is a critical component of the ongoing industrial revolution, offering vast opportunities for efficient governance, resource management, and more.
Dr. Zerbo outlined that AI could enhance government transparency, fight disinformation, improve healthcare and education, and bolster security among other benefits. She reiterated Burkina Faso's commitment to digital transformation by 2030, expanding connectivity, and strengthening legal frameworks through twelve key projects.
The 20th edition of Digital Week is being held from November 18 to November 21, 2025, at the Ouagadougou International Arts and Crafts Fair site, with Ghana as the guest country of honor, and Mali and Niger as special guest countries.
