OUAGADOUGOU – Burkina Faso is set to take an active role in the upcoming International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS), as announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, during a recent Council of Ministers meeting.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Traoré highlighted Burkina Faso’s commitment to international security discussions, outlining the nation’s participation in ICONS 2024, which is slated for May 20-24 in Vienna, Austria. The conference, as per information from Elena Buglov of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cited on the agency’s website, aims to foster dialogue among national authorities, regional groups, international bodies, and the private sector on both current achievements and future endeavors in nuclear security.
ICONS 2024 is structured to include a ministerial segment leading to a declaration, scheduled for May 20-21, followed by a comprehensive scientific and technical session from May 22-24. This gathering marks the fourth instance of this high-level international dialogue, following successful conferences in 2013, 2016, and 2020, intending to advance global nuclear security frameworks and collaborations.
