Burkina faso: A Heart Institute will be built in 2026 to strengthen cardiovascular surgery, according to the Prime Minister. The Burkinabe government plans to initiate the construction of this specialized hospital center to improve the management of cardiovascular diseases and cardiac surgery. This development is a part of the Presidential Initiative for Health, as announced by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo during his Speech on the State of the Nation before the Transitional Legislative Assembly.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted the project's goal to significantly enhance the quality and supply of cardiovascular care in Burkina Faso. The Heart Institute will complement existing health sector achievements, including the Pala University Hospital Centre and the Bobo-Dioulasso Radiotherapy Centre, both of which are set to be completed by 2025.
The Prime Minister detailed additional health sector improvements under the Presidential Initiative for Health. This includes transforming 25 Health and Social Promotion Centers into Communal Medical Centers and commencing construction on five anesthesia and resuscitation services.
In addressing human resources in healthcare, Mr. Ouedraogo mentioned thePlan," which has facilitated the recruitment of over 2,000 paramedics and more than 1,700 general practitioners for specialization in 53 medical-surgical fields. Additionally, 171 pharmacists and 40 dental surgeons have been recruited to specialize in 16 pharmaceutical and 15 dental surgery specialties, respectively. This plan aims to sustainably enhance the availability of specialized human resources in national healthcare facilities.
