Ouagadougou: To mark his 20-year musical career, Burkinabe musician KEZI launched his fourth album, "L'Afrique s'©veille" (Africa Awakens), in Ouagadougou on Thursday. The album is a socially conscious work that highlights the growing awareness of African youth.
According to Burkina Information Agency, KEZI presented his new album at a press conference in Ouagadougou on Thursday. This six-track album, sung in French and national languages, addresses themes such as humility, hope, perseverance, and above all, raising awareness. The artist urges African youth to invest more in work in order to benefit from the immense riches of the continent.
In the eponymous track "Africa Awakens," the artist highlights the break with certain narratives that have long portrayed the continent as poor. This perception, he argues, has contributed to the indebtedness of many African countries, despite the abundance of natural resources such as gold and diamonds. Rejoicing in the current awareness, KEZI believes that "it's now or never" for Africa to reposition itself, urging young people to maintain this momentum.
"We must stay the course and keep this flame alive so that this momentum continues," he insisted, emphasizing that the time has now come for action and building a prosperous continent. In addition to "L'Afrique s'©veille," the album includes tracks like "Immotodim," "Humdater¨to," "Wosaw©," "AES engag©" (Committed AES), and "Ch©riw¨," promoting unity, resilience, and youth engagement.
The album is available on USB drive for 5,000 FCFA and is also accessible on the YouTube platform. Born Kaleb Zinsonni, KEZI began his musical career in D©dougou in the 2000s, with the recording of his first track "Habiba" in 2006. Since then, he has enriched his discography with four albums, including "R©flexion," "Avec toi plus tard," "Fominga," and "L'Afrique s'©veille."
Also a military man, the artist manages to reconcile the rigor of his profession with his passion for music, which he considers a powerful tool for raising awareness and educating people. To mark its 20-year career, KEZI is planning a series of activities across several locations in Burkina Faso, culminating in September 2026 with a gala dinner in Ouagadougou.
