Burkina Faso Swears in New Advisors to the Superior Council of Communication

Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso has officially inducted nine new advisors into the Superior Council of Communication (CSC), each set to serve a non-renewable five-year term amid the country’s challenging security situation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, one of the newly appointed members, the ceremony was held on Monday before the Constitutional Council. This event follows their appointment on January 24, 2024, by the Council of Ministers and concludes the tenure of the previous team led by Abdoulazize Bamogo. Ouédraogo highlighted the crucial role of communication in the nation’s fight against terrorism and stated that the new advisors’ primary mission is to enhance social cohesion.

The advisors, including Ouédraogo, plan to adhere strictly to the law to regulate media operations for the benefit of the population. Abdoulaye Tao, another newly sworn-in member, emphasized the diversity of the group and their commitment to meeting public expectations in media regulation.

Barthélemy Kéré, the president of the Constitutional Council, expressed his confidence in the patriotism and professionalism of the new members. He emphasized the significant responsibility they bear, given the media’s diversity, widespread presence, and complex mission. “You will be required to rule on questions before you, like a court,” Kéré noted, underscoring the oath’s importance and the delicacy of their functions.

This inauguration comes after the Transitional Legislative Assembly’s unanimous vote on November 21, 2023, with 70 votes for the organic bill reforming the CSC. Notably, the president of the CSC will no longer be elected by peer advisors but will be appointed by the President of Faso in the coming days.
