Burkina Faso: Suicide Drone Operators and Terrorist Leaders Killed

Ouagadougou: Between May and early June 2026, the Combat Forces intensified their operations in several theaters of engagement, conducting a series of offensive reconnaissance missions, ambushes, and airstrikes. Targeted strikes against terrorist leaders, the neutralization of criminals in hilly areas and dense forests, the seizure of supplies, and the rescue of trapped families are among the notable achievements of the troops during this period.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the fighting forces are giving no respite to the enemies of the Burkinabe nation, as evidenced by the increase in offensives and the maximum pressure maintained on terrorist strongholds. On June 5, in the Liptako region, intelligence services reported a massive gathering of criminals under the thick trees on the outskirts of the village of Ibal, 15 km north of Sebba. The aircraft immediately confirmed the target and dropped powerful bombs. The few survivors who tried to escape the onslaught of fire were quickly overtaken and neutralized, while their vehicles went up in flames.

A few days earlier, on June 3, while the Combat Forces were advancing on an offensive reconnaissance mission in the Tongomayel and Blhd area, enemy elements attempted to organize themselves on hills to monitor and counter troop movements. They were immediately surrounded and neutralized by air strikes. This vigilance on the ground was also evident on June 2nd in Foutouri, where forces intercepted and neutralized lookouts who had come to spy on the approach posts, while BIR 21 recovered a batch of equipment during a reconnaissance in the Bouna and Toolo area.

The month had thus begun on June 1st with the conclusion of the large-scale Yamwogo operation deep in Kiembara, showing a record of numerous bases destroyed and terrorists neutralized. The Defense Forces, the Internal Security Forces and the VDP, in their humanitarian spirit, took the opportunity to rescue families of terrorists and entrust them to social services. On the same day, in the Tapoa region, aerial vehicles spotted and struck mine layers on the Kantchari-Niger axis, thus protecting a moving logistics convoy.

Going back to the end of May, the army made a series of setbacks. On May 29 and 30, the units consolidated their positions: first by neutralizing lookouts who were trying to approach the 22nd BIR's deployment, then by completing a successful reconnaissance north of Ouahigouya, which resulted in the destruction of enemy pockets and the recovery of equipment. On May 27, units of the 23rd BIR prevailed during a reconnaissance mission at Karemenguel, gaining the upper hand over the enemy. The previous day, May 26, the enemy attempted a desperate counterattack at Tougouri, but it was swiftly repelled and crushed by the opposing forces.

Continuing this war of attrition, on May 25, the 30th BIR set up a successful ambush in the Mn area, following in the footsteps of the special forces who, on May 24, pushed the advantage by conducting deep offensives in Pttebali. One day earlier, on May 23, the 9th BIR took over in the Goulgountou area, quickly dominating a group of armed elements after establishing contact. The day of May 22nd was marked by combined actions on the ground and in the air. The 29th BIR fell into an ambush during a reconnaissance in the Moara Petit area, but the men regained the advantage and forced the enemy to flee.

At the same time, in the Sirba area, terrorists who had invaded a village near Pila to steal livestock were tracked by aircraft to their fallback base, where they were neutralized. On May 20, it was the air force's turn to strike a major blow in the Nakamb area: an important meeting of criminal leaders was detected in the Kankamogr forest and instantly destroyed by a powerful missile. A little earlier, on May 19, the special intervention group of the 30th BIR and the rapid intervention company joined forces to set up a deadly ambush between Koogho and Mn, thus neutralizing dozens of murderers.

Mid-May was characterized by the protection of supply routes. On May 14, the enemy once again attempted to disrupt Operation Lycaon's logistics by attacking the 16th BIR during an escort towards Soll, but the soldiers repelled the assault, inflicting heavy material losses on the enemy. At the same time, the 26th BIR crosses swords in Tibadi and Datougou for a complete subduing of the adversary, while the 18th BIR establishes an equally vigorous contact in the Dimibo area. The previous day, May 13, still as part of this Lycaon operation aimed at supplying the locality of Soll, criminals tried to block the advance of the units, but they were immediately subdued.

The day of May 12th marked another significant moment with simultaneous large-scale operations. On the Ougarou-Matiacoali axis, the men of the 26th BIR engaged and subdued the enemy during a link-up mission. At the same time, the 9th BIR makes contact with criminals in Sambonaye Goudbo, while at the Manni detachment, an isolated lookout is neutralized. Further west, the 7th BIR completed that day a long offensive reconnaissance from Morolaba towards the border, destroying several bases and recovering a large number of civilian vehicles that had been stolen by the terrorists.

On May 11, aerial surveillance took over north of Baraboul: a criminal pickup truck heading towards friendly positions was spotted, followed, then pulverized by a missile as it tried to camouflage itself under a large tree. The day before, on May 10, the special intervention group of the 30th BIR, supported by a rapid intervention company, maintained this pace by laying a successful ambush in the Mn area. At the beginning of May, the fighting was initially concentrated at the borders. May 7th proved to be a particularly intense day.

The men of Forsatec Honronya advanced towards the southern border after the attack on Folonzo; following a brief contact, the enemy retreated into Ivorian territory under the watchful eye of observation drones. At the same time, the 18th BIR cleared enemy pockets in the Toukoro area of Dimibo, while another Forsatec unit neutralized several criminals in Faramana. Also on May 7, units from the Dargo detachment (Boulsa area), returning from an escort mission, proactively broke an ambush. Simultaneously, to the north at Banikani (Djibo area), aircraft spotted and struck a group that had come to test local defenses.

The day before, on May 6, armed elements from the border area with Ivory Coast launched a massive assault against the Folonzo base. The forces on site severely subdued them, forcing them to flee, abandoning their bodies and equipment. To anticipate these movements, the army deploys tactical traps. On May 5, the Caracal unit successfully ambushed criminals in Yamba who had come to gather intelligence. This series of failed incursions began on May 4th in Barani, where an infiltration attempt was abruptly halted at the first post held by the valiant Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). The very next day, May 3rd, the enemy attempted to harass the outpost at Barsalogho, but the counterattack was so fierce that no attacker was able to return to report.

Finally, May began on the 2nd with a response to a technological threat. Criminal groups attempted to launch kamikaze drones against the positions of the fighting forces. This attack failed. Tracked by aerial surveillance, they were followed to their fallback headquarters, which was completely destroyed by a successful airstrike. AIB sources have assured that operations will continue until the enemies of the Nation are annihilated or surrendered.
