BURKINA/SOUROU: Students at the Tougan provincial high school undertook a significant reforestation initiative in their schoolyard, demonstrating their commitment to national strength and civic responsibility. This activity, which involved planting about a hundred trees including neems and baobabs, was part of the Patriotic Commitment Days organized under the auspices of the Boucle du Mouhoun regional governor. According to Burkina Information Agency, the event kicked off early at 7:30 a.m. with a ceremonial flag-raising, led by the school's principal, Abdoulaye Touze Zina. The theme of the day was "For a strong and sovereign nation, let us not betray our homeland." This theme underscored the dual focus on environmental stewardship and national pride. The event also served as a platform for the Chief Education Advisor, Issouf Yaméogo, to relay a message from the nation's highest authorities. He highlighted the importance of reforestation, the ceremonial raising of the colors, and the role of students in com bating insecurity. Principal Zina took the opportunity to reflect on the school's achievements over the past three years. He noted that these accomplishments had led the province of Sourou to rank first in the region in the BEPC exams and second in the baccalaureate over the last two years, a remarkable feat given the challenging security situation in the area. Zina encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence, linking academic success to the broader goal of building a resilient nation.
