Ouagadougou: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE, and Deputy Minister Ms. Bebgnasgnan Stella Eldine KABRE/KABORE held crucial meetings with diplomats from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Swiss Confederation on Monday, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the first meeting involved discussions with Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba FAGHIHI. The two parties reviewed their cooperation achievements in 2025 and explored prospects for 2026. Key areas of focus included preparations for the second session of the Joint Cooperation Commission, strengthening training opportunities, and enhancing cooperation in solar energy and health sectors. Ambassador Faghihi reaffirmed Iran's support for Burkina Faso in combating terrorism and commended the country's economic progress in 2025. He also addressed recent demonstrations in Iran, assuring that the situation was under control and called for mutual support among like-minded nations.
Subsequently, the Burkinabe Foreign Minister met with a Swiss delegation led by Ambassador Stalder PHILIPP, Undersecretary of State and Head of the Africa Division for Swiss Foreign Affairs. This dialogue aimed to deepen the partnership between Burkina Faso and Switzerland, focusing on development cooperation and trade. Both sides acknowledged the importance of balancing humanitarian aid with development initiatives. Minister Traore emphasized the need for partners to create development opportunities, thereby reducing dependency among target populations.
