Ouagadougou: The coach of the Stallions of Burkina Faso, Brama Traore, expressed optimism and satisfaction following his team's 2-0 victory over Sudan during the 3rd day of group matches in Group E of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This triumph, as highlighted by Traore, is expected to uplift the spirits of thousands of Burkinabe supporters.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the post-match press conference saw Brama Traore emphasize the significance of the win. He remarked, "It is the victory that we will remember. This success will bring joy to the hearts of thousands of Burkinabe." Traore further noted the team's consistency in the AFCON finals and underscored their goal to finish in the top three of the current edition.
Addressing the team's strategy, Traore defended his focus on securing a win over playing aesthetically pleasing football. "We played to win, not necessarily to play well. The main objective was victory," he stated.
On the topic of player injuries, Traore provided clarity, explaining that the absence of Cyriaque Irie and Herve Koffi was due to fatigue rather than serious injuries. He noted that Irie experienced a drop in energy, while Koffi was dealing with cramps from the previous day's training session, leading to his rest as a precautionary measure.
Looking ahead to the round of 16, where Burkina Faso is set to face Ivory Coast on January 6, Traore expressed a pragmatic view: "We don't expect to face a weak team," he concluded, indicating readiness for the challenges ahead.
