Burkina Faso qualified for CAN 2023, the 13th in its history

The Etalons of Burkina Faso have qualified for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) football which will be played in Côte d’Ivoire in 2024, after their draw of 1 goal everywhere with the Sparrowhawks of Togo, Tuesday evening at the Kégué stadium in Lomé, thanks to the 4th day of the playoffs of the competition.

It was the Burkinabè who opened the scoring through Bournemouth (England) striker Dango Ouattara in the 12th minute before the Sparrowhawks of Togo restored parity in the score by Kodjo Laba (26th ) .

The game was then balanced, even if offensive desires existed on both sides to win the match without success. With this score the Stallions are sure to finish at least 2nd in Group B, qualifying for CAN 2023.

Burkina Faso thus qualifies for the 13th time for a CAN after those of 1978, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2021.

In the other game of the group, Cape Verde won by the narrowest of margins against Eswatini. Burkina Faso is the leader with 10 points (+5) followed by Cape Verde (7 points +1), Eswatini (2 points) and Togo (1 point).

The Stallions will receive the Sihlangu Semnikati (The King’s Shield) from Eswatini next June before the head-to-head with the Blue Nile Sharks of Cape Verde in September.
