Burkina Faso Prime Minister Confronts Misinformation on Terrorism Fight

OUAGADOUGOU — Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Dr. Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambèla, addressed misinformation regarding the nation’s counter-terrorism efforts in a meeting with the outgoing Belgian ambassador, emphasizing the importance of confronting false narratives directly.

According to Burkina Information Agency, during his conversation with Ambassador Jean Jacques Quairiat, he highlighted that those spreading falsehoods about Burkina Faso’s anti-terrorism measures were taken to the front lines to witness the actual conditions. This measure aims to provide firsthand experience of the challenges faced by the country in its battle against terrorism. The Prime Minister expressed frustration over Western attitudes toward African nations, advocating for a more respectful and mutually beneficial relationship between countries.

Dr. Kyelem further reiterated Burkina Faso’s stance on non-interference, stressing that the country expects the same respect for its sovereignty from other nations. This conversation reflects ongoing efforts under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who has prioritized combating terrorism, fostering endogenous development, and pursuing respectful international partnerships since assuming office in September 2022.
