OUAGADOUGOU – In a New Year address delivered on Sunday, December 31, 2023, Ibrahim Traoré, the President of the Transition in Burkina Faso, emphasized his commitment to making 2024 a significant year for the operationalization of various economic development initiatives.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the focus for 2024 will be on deepening and implementing various initiatives that have already been started. This includes the presidential initiative for food self-sufficiency and the agro-pastoral offensive spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture. These initiatives are primarily aimed at addressing the challenge of achieving food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso. President Traoré reassured that efforts are already underway to ensure progress towards this goal in the upcoming year.
Emphasizing the importance of collective effort, President Traoré urged the Burkinabe people to engage in production activities. He stressed that the state would provide support in these endeavors, helping to meet the challenge of food self-sufficiency.
The address also highlighted the ongoing efforts towards industrialization and the support for traders who contribute significantly to the economy of both urban and rural areas. The President mentioned the progress of the African Project for Economic Cooperation (APEC), which is expected to establish numerous factories and initiate many projects in 2024.
Urban sanitation is another critical area of focus for the coming year. President Traoré called for the mobilization of the Burkinabe people around the presidential initiative for community development, aiming to clean up cities and prevent epidemics such as dengue fever. The initiative seeks to encourage community participation in sanitation and urbanization efforts to improve living environments and prevent the resurgence of certain epidemics.
Additionally, on December 11, 2023, President Traoré had called upon the citizens of Burkina Faso to actively participate in the country’s major development projects. This call to action is part of a broader strategy to enhance Burkina Faso’s autonomy and assert its sovereignty more robustly.
