Burkina Faso Premier Urges Business Leaders to Enhance Investment Climate

Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo chaired the joint ordinary session of the Steering Committee for the Institutional Mechanism for Monitoring and Improving the Business Climate and the Steering Committee for the Public-Private Consultation Framework in Ouagadougou. Business stakeholders reviewed and adopted the implementation report of the reform plan through December 31, 2024, as well as the reform project for 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the private sector, alongside the public sector, is the engine of economic growth, development, and job creation in all modern economies. The Burkinabe government, committed to establishing a business climate conducive to private investment, prioritizes dialogue with the private sector and improving the economic environment. The creation of the Public-Private Consultation Framework aims to promote exchanges between stakeholders and remove obstacles hindering a smooth business climate.

"My Government attaches great importance to the proper functioning of institutional mechanisms for steering and monitoring the improvement of the business climate and the Public-Private Consultation Framework. The objective is to ensure the diligent implementation of reforms and recommendations from the exchange platforms," declared the Head of Government in his opening speech.

As of December 31, 2024, out of 61 reforms identified in the 2024 reform plan, 25 reforms (40.98%) have been fully implemented, 20 reforms (32.79%) are in progress, and 16 reforms (26.23%) have not yet been implemented. This results in an overall reform implementation rate of 56.38%.

Regarding the 2024-2026 action plan for implementing the 145 recommendations and commitments from public-private meetings, including 59 recorded in 2023 and 86 from previous editions, 23.45% of the planned actions have been fully implemented, 30.34% are currently being implemented, and 25.52% have not yet begun implementation.

The Head of Government invited all stakeholders to fully commit to pursuing reforms and resolving challenges to create a business-friendly environment in Burkina Faso. "Everyone must play their part to ensure our country has an environment conducive to productive investment, a guarantee of sustainable economic and social development," he emphasized.

Despite a challenging international and national context, the Government remains committed to creating a framework conducive to the emergence of a dynamic economic elite, serving the country's sustainable and inclusive development. Businessmen and women have a role to play in achieving this goal.

During the discussions at this session, the Prime Minister encouraged Burkinabe business stakeholders to unite to be more competitive in the market. "It is by working together that we become stronger," he maintained.
