Ouagadougou: The Police Academy held its formal opening ceremony for the 2025-2026 academic year on Wednesday, announcing a significant reform to introduce a specialization regime within the institution. The event, themed "International cooperation in police training in the face of transnational threats," marked a shift in training focus.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Security, Commander Ahmed Ouedraogo, emphasized that the academy will evolve to train not only generalist police officers but also specialists in fields such as criminal investigation, law enforcement, intelligence, and public safety. He highlighted the necessity of this reform in response to the rapidly changing security environment, requiring adaptation to new methods.
Commander Ouedraogo stressed that the adaptation involves building on achievements, strengthening innovations, and tailoring training to meet ground needs effectively. The introduction of the specialization program will be gradual, intending to enhance the academy's regional openness, with students from Chad, Niger, Mali, and Togo.
He pointed out that this confidence cements the Burkina Faso Police Academy's status as a center of excellence and a reference point in international police training. Ouedraogo called on residents to uphold values of discipline, loyalty, honor, and excellence, reminding them of their noble mission to serve and protect the people and ensure national stability.
Commander Ouedraogo also reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting the academy's efforts in improving training and enhancing educational infrastructure. The academic year will feature an inaugural conference and various activities planned throughout the week. Students will spend two years in this educational environment.
