Burkina Faso Parliament Votes to Withdraw Privatization of Three Strategic Companies

OUAGADOUGOU—The Transitional Legislative Assembly of Burkina Faso voted on Thursday to withdraw the privatization of three key companies: the Bureau of Mines and Geology of Burkina (Bumigeb), the Burkinabè National Hydrocarbon Company (Sonabhy), and the Motor Vehicle Control Center (CCVA).

According to Burkina Information Agency, institutional affairs, and human rights (CAGIDH), this government-initiated law was unanimously adopted by 70 deputies. The law aims to strengthen state control over these strategic sectors amidst ongoing security and humanitarian crises. The legislation deprivatizes CCVA, 51% of which was privately held, and keeps Sonabhy and Bumigeb within the fold of public companies.
