Burkina Faso Parliament Passes Constitutional Revision Establishing National Council of Communities

Ouagadougou – The Transitional National Assembly of Burkina Faso adopted a significant constitutional revision on Saturday, which includes the formation of the National Council of Communities (CNC). This new body is tasked with roles in mediation, consultation, and proposal making.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the CNC is designed to function as a mediation entity and will be consulted on issues of major national interest. It is set to contribute through proposals that enhance the nation’s welfare, marking a departure from the former House of Representatives structure.

The document further outlines that the composition of the CNC will be defined in a subsequent law, which the government is expected to present to the National Representation. Additionally, the revised Constitution, which was ratified by the parliament on the same day, includes alterations in the judiciary system, a reformation of various institutions, and the advancement of national languages. Notably, this revision also led to the abolition of the Economic and Social Council (CES) and the Mediator of Faso.
