Burkina Faso Minister Emphasizes Journalists’ Social Responsibility

Ouagadougou: The Minister in charge of Communication, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, has called on journalists from regional media to uphold their social responsibility, urging them to carefully consider the implications before publishing information that may not align with Burkina Faso's interests. This statement was made during a meeting held on Tuesday in Ouagadougou as part of an immersion workshop for media professionals.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop, initiated by the Government Information Service (SIG) in collaboration with the communication department, aimed to enhance journalists' capacities and strengthen partnerships with the government. The event provided a platform for journalists to share their challenges and receive guidance from the minister.

During the discussions, Minister Ouedraogo underscored the government's dedication to fostering professional journalism, stating that all journalists in Burkina Faso should be regarded equally. He highlighted the essential role regional journalists play in combating fake news and emphasized the importance of responsible journalism in informing the public about the nation's progress.

The minister encouraged journalists to continue their vital work, asserting that Burkina Faso is thriving and serves as a beacon for Africa and beyond. He also highlighted the importance of patriotism and civic duty, advising journalists to weigh the consequences of their reporting on national advancement.

Jeremi Sie Koulibaly, coordinator of the SIG, expressed satisfaction with the dialogue between regional journalists and the government spokesperson. He acknowledged the significant role regional media play in disseminating quality government communication.

Constantin B. Zagre, a journalist from Radio Salaki in Dedougou, noted the meeting's significance, stating that it provided valuable insights into collaborating with the ministry to access and relay accurate information to the public.

The program for regional journalists will continue in the capital in the upcoming days, further fostering communication between the media and the government.
