OUAGADOUGOU — National broadcasters from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have signed a pivotal partnership agreement to consolidate their communication efforts in the war against terrorism.
According to Burkina Information Agency, on Friday, Hassane Baba Diombele, the Director General of Mali’s Radio and Television Office (ORTM), emphasized the crucial nature of the collaboration during the signing ceremony in Ouagadougou. The partnership, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Burkina Faso’s radio and television broadcasting (RTB), aims to create a united communication front akin to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
Mr. Diombele highlighted that the agreement is a strategic move to synchronize communication tactics as the three countries face a common threat. His counterpart from Burkina Faso, Atéridar Galip Somé, echoed the sentiment, considering the partnership a significant and symbolic union to strengthen their collective media influence, intelligence, and capacity for content production that supports their nations’ efforts against terrorism.
The agreement encompasses co-production, program exchanges, press correspondent provisions, expertise and training exchanges, and mutual support in media endeavors.
Due to technical issues, the general director of the Office de radiodiffusion-Télévision du Niger was unable to attend the signing in Ouagadougou. Nonetheless, it was announced that the agreement document would be forwarded to him for his signature, ensuring his participation in this trilateral media alliance.
