OUAGADOUGOU - The government of Burkina Faso is set to begin a special operation next week aimed at issuing land titles to individuals who have purchased plots from private real estate companies. This month-long initiative was announced by the Director General of Taxes, Talato Éliane Djiguemdé/Ouédraogo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, who spoke on RTB Sunday evening, the process will be streamlined for applicants seeking allocation certificates for bare land and PUH for built-up land. Prospective title holders will need to provide only three specific documents, a reduction from the usual nine, though the exact nature of these documents has yet to be disclosed. The government has also decided to implement fixed payment amounts to facilitate the process. For instance, in cities like Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, the fee for built-up land measuring 240 square meters will be 375,000 FCFA. In contrast, the fees for similar plots in Banfora and Koupela will be 250,000 FCFA and 187,000 FCFA, respectively.
Payments for these titles can be made at dedicated one-stop shops for land and estate services. Djiguemdé/Ouédraogo highlighted the government's efforts to offer these conveniences and encouraged all beneficiaries to take advantage of this opportunity to regularize their land holdings.
This operation, authorized by the Burkinabè government on July 3, 2024, targets 180,000 plots across 127 sites, involving transactions with 49 private real estate companies. It marks the first phase of a broader initiative to secure property rights for thousands of citizens.
