Burkina Faso Launches School Conferences on Civics and Peace

Ouagadougou: The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, in charge of Relations with Institutions, Keeper of the Seals, Me Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, officially launched a series of conferences on civics and peace at the Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana technical high school. These conferences are intended for students from 50 establishments in the capital.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is sponsored by the Minister of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages, Mr. Jacques Sosthène Dingara, and the Minister of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training, Dr. Boubakar Savadogo. It forms a part of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment.

Mr. Bayala emphasized that these conferences aim to “sow the seeds of civic duty and peace within our schools, in order to build a healthy and peaceful school environment” and to “educate young people who are intellectually and socially capable of rising to the challenges and issues of the moment.”

He also encouraged students
to actively participate in the conferences in order to derive maximum benefit for their personal development and for the construction of a more just and peaceful Burkinabe society.

The Minister also recalled the achievements of the first edition of these days, in particular the establishment of citizenship and human rights clubs in several schools, which helped to strengthen civic culture among students.
