Burkina Faso Launches ‘One Village Resettled, One Power Tiller’ Initiative to Boost Agropastoral Recovery

Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, has announced the launch of a special operation called 'One village resettled, one power tiller', intended to support the resumption of agropastoral activities in the recaptured localities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister of State, Minister in charge of Agriculture, Commander Isma«l Sombie, stated that this initiative is part of the dynamic of economic recovery of resettled populations, which has been made possible by efforts to reconquer the national territory. These efforts have enabled the return of more than 500 villages to date.

The "One village resettled, one power tiller" operation aims to significantly reduce the arduousness of agricultural work in these areas by providing power tillers to the beneficiary communities. Commander Sombie specified that this initiative will also include support in the form of agricultural inputs, notably improved seeds and fertilizers, which will be provided free of charge to producers.

Additionally, plowing services will be offered to facilitate the effective resumption of agricultural production activities. Through this action, the government intends to sustainably restore the livelihoods of resettled populations and strengthen the resilience of agropastoral production systems in the reclaimed areas, thereby contributing to the consolidation of food security and local economic development.
