Koudougou: The Bourkina neighborhood in Koudougou has officially launched Burkina Faso's first sector police station, marking a significant development in the national security reform efforts, AIB observed. The ceremony took place on Thursday, December 18, and was attended by various local and regional officials.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Amedee Pare, president of the Koudougou municipal special delegation, highlighted the community's pride in hosting the inaugural sector police station. He noted that this initiative is in line with the vision of President Ibrahim Traore, who aims to foster a collaborative approach to security between defense and security forces and local communities.
Police Divisional Commissioner Amidou Youin, representing the Director General of the National Police, explained that the establishment of sector police stations is part of a broader reconfiguration of the security framework. This strategy seeks to create a comprehensive security network across the country, focusing on community engagement and local security.
Mr. Lucien Guenguere, Secretary General of the Nando Region, emphasized the symbolic importance of the Bourkina district, the birthplace of the name Burkina Faso, as the location for this first sector police station. He reiterated the regional authorities' support for security sector reforms and encouraged cooperation between police and residents in enhancing security.
Bourkina Naaba Bongo, the traditional chief of the Bourkina district, expressed appreciation to the authorities for acknowledging national history. He urged the public to support police efforts by sharing information, which is crucial for maintaining security.
Divisional Police Commissioner Bougouma Aime Salvador, Regional Director of the National Police in Nando, stated that the sector police station aims to strengthen police presence in urban areas and improve security services. He also acknowledged the contribution of a donor in constructing the building's perimeter fence.
The police station will handle various tasks, including administrative policing duties like road safety and general surveillance, as well as judicial policing duties such as investigating offenses and executing judicial orders.
The ceremony, held under the patronage of the Governor of the Nando Region, Mr. Adama Jean Yves Bere, and sponsored by the President of the Nando Employers' Association, El Hadj Inoussa Bague, featured Mr. Joachim Marie Emmanuel Tapsoba as the guest of honor. The event was attended by a large number of administrative, security, judicial, traditional, and religious authorities, along with local residents.
