Ouagadougou: In recent weeks, the Burkinabe armed forces, with the support of air operations, have embarked on a series of expansive offensive maneuvers targeting armed terrorist factions across multiple regions within the country. These meticulously coordinated efforts have led to notable tactical victories both on the ground and in the air.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operations commenced on April 29 when armed criminals attempted to ambush a supply convoy traveling between Foutouri and Gayeri. The attackers, who positioned themselves on elevated terrain, were identified by aerial surveillance, which facilitated their neutralization. Ground forces subsequently intervened to finalize the mission.
On May 2, intelligence revealed a significant enemy presence in the Sawenga woods in the center-east, prompting a decisive air assault that obliterated the initial position. As survivors attempted to regroup at the site, a subsequent bombing caught them by surprise. Those who fled were tracked to their fallback location and neutralized.
Simultaneously, in Boulsa, a terrorist column was intercepted and struck as it converged with another group. Another attempted enemy advance in Diabo was similarly thwarted by an airstrike.
May 3 witnessed further success in W Park, where a major terrorist stronghold was detected and bombed, forcing survivors to seek refuge in an abandoned outpost where they encountered another attack. Ground forces executed an ambush in Tiss©, within the Nouna area, neutralizing several enemy combatants and seizing equipment.
As a convoy reached Yamba, terrorists monitoring the route were eliminated. The next morning, their bodies were visible from aerial reconnaissance.
On May 5, BIR 21 units successfully ambushed enemy lookouts in Titao. Offensive reconnaissance in Tougan led to the neutralization of several criminals and the recovery of logistical assets.
In the Sahel region on May 6, a mining site faced a criminal assault. Unarmed miners bravely repelled the attackers and seized their weapons before military forces arrived. On the same day, a strike in Nagare eradicated a terrorist group, and an extensive bombardment targeted a key enemy position in the Sourou Valley.
Early on May 8, the Kouri VDP engaged in heavy fighting in the Bogand© area, maintaining their stance against an assault. Air units pursued the retreating attackers, delivering multiple strikes.
Further operations on May 8 and 10 in the Djibasso area led to the neutralization of additional criminals and equipment recovery. A significant attack on a Djibo base saw terrorists arriving in large numbers. Air strikes were initiated against the advancing attackers, with reinforcements requested due to the scale of the assault. An enemy-armored vehicle was tracked and neutralized, and entrenched terrorists were eliminated through targeted strikes.
In disarray, the terrorists' attempt to evacuate their wounded was thwarted by air ambushes, resulting in significant losses. Surveillance allowed the military to identify enemy bases, leading to a massive airstrike campaign accompanied by ground reinforcements.
A counteroffensive began on May 11, targeting positions in Taouremba, Filio, and Belehed© with precision strikes. On May 14, criminals in the Silmangue area were tracked and eliminated by a missile strike. The 9th BIR secured the region. On May 15, the 20th BIR successfully ambushed enemy lookouts, neutralizing them and seizing additional equipment. Further strikes in Nassoumbou targeted remaining enemy positions, with surviving groups systematically neutralized.
