Cinkansé, Burkina Faso - In Cinkansé, Burkina Faso, a new temporary vehicle registration counter has been launched, designed to ensure all vehicles are registered as they enter the nation or leave a store, announced Ousmane Ouattara, the high commissioner of Koulpélogo province. According to Colonel Kanou Coulibaly, Director General of Land and Maritime Transport, the initiative aims to enforce a law from 1994, requiring vehicles to be registered to travel on public roads. This effort is part of a broader legal framework established to bolster national security and regulatory compliance among vehicle owners and dealers.

According to Burkina Information Agency, individuals seeking to register their vehicles must present an identity document, a valid telephone number, customs documentation, and a fee of 12,500 F CFA for motor vehicles or 9,500 F CFA for motorcycles and tricycles. This registration grants a 30-day, renewable adhesive strip marked 'WW'. Vehicle manufacturers and dealers are required to apply for a 'W card', which costs 50,000 CFA francs annually and must be approved by the minister in charge of transport. Colonel Coulibaly stressed that while this registration allows for temporary movement within Burkina Faso, it does not exempt vehicle owners from paying customs duties.

High Commissioner Ouattara emphasized the critical role of this law in maintaining public safety amidst the country's security challenges. He warned that non-compliance could lead to significant sanctions and urged all vehicle owners and dealers to adhere to these measures strictly. The initiative, which started in Cinkansé, will expand to include new registration counters in Dakola and Bobo-Inter, as part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to improve the security and daily experiences of the citizens of Burkina Faso.
