Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government launched the second edition of the Student Recognition Week for Teachers, named "Zaam¨ beogo", aimed at honoring educators who impart knowledge, sometimes at personal risk.
According to Burkina Information Agency, teachers have often risked their lives to uphold the torch of knowledge, highlighting their courage, resilience, and commitment. Major General Celestin Simpore, Minister of State, Minister of War and Patriotic Defense, expressed the nation's gratitude towards these educators on behalf of the head of government, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo.
The Major General commended teachers working in high-risk areas, assuring them of support from the Defense and Security Forces to restore security, enabling them to fulfill their mission. He urged collective efforts to celebrate the teachers' noble contributions.
Professor Moumouni Zoungrana, Minister in charge of Secondary Education and Vocational Training, emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of teachers in shaping future generations. He highlighted the event's role in promoting gratitude and humility among students, aligning with national values.
Arielle Kima, a student representative, expressed appreciation to teachers, noting that teaching gratitude is a vital educational act that fosters unity and growth. Roland Sow, representing the sponsors, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the collective importance of honoring educators.
The Student Recognition Week is an initiative from the Ministry of Basic Education, the Ministry of Secondary Education and Vocational Training, and the Ministry of Higher Education, aimed at strengthening the role and recognition of teachers in Burkina Faso.
