Burkina Faso Health Agency Warns Against Aphrodisiacs Containing Tadalafil

OUAGADOUGOU - The National Agency for Pharmaceutical Regulation (ANRP) has issued a warning against the use of so-called "100% natural" aphrodisiac products, which contain Tadalafil, an active ingredient known to cause serious health risks such as headaches, cardiovascular attacks, and even myocardial infarction. The warning was issued in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, these aphrodisiacs—marketed under names like Maximen cappuccino coffee, Maximen honey, Vitamax doubleshot energy coffee solution, and Vitamax kingsman energy candy—contain Tadalafil, a substance typically prescribed for erectile dysfunction. The use of these products without medical supervision poses significant health risks, the agency noted.

The ANRP emphasized that the importation and sale of these products have been suspended nationwide. The agency's warning followed quality control tests conducted by the Ivorian Agency for Pharmaceutical Regulation (AIRP), which detected the presence of Tadalafil in these products. Health professionals have been advised not to prescribe or dispense these items, and the public has been urged to avoid their use.
