BARSALOGHO – Following a devastating terrorist attack in Barsalogho, the Burkina Faso Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, announced a committed governmental response during his visit to the wounded in Kaya on Sunday. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in numerous casualties among civilians and security forces.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the planned response aims to assertively demonstrate to the terrorists that such acts of violence will not be tolerated on Burkinabe soil. He stressed the government’s determination during a press briefing after visiting those affected by the incident in Kaya, emphasizing that the response would be robust enough to deter future barbarities.
The government delegation, including the Ministers of Security and Health, Mahamadou Sana and Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou respectively, as well as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Célestin Simporé, was led by Minister of State and government spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo. They expressed solidarity on behalf of President Ibrahim Traoré and the nation with the victims and the community of Barsalogho.
Despite the deployment of aerial support, the attack led to significant human losses and injuries among civilians, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). Minister Sana expressed his hopes for a swift recovery for the injured and reassured the public of the government’s resolve to protect Burkinabe citizens and their property.
