Burkina faso: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso (CCI-BF) marked its 78th anniversary with a ceremony led by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts, and represented by Chief of Staff, Zakaria Gyengani. During the event, the government urged the Chamber to enhance its effectiveness in supporting the country's economic sovereignty.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the speech delivered on behalf of the Minister of Trade, Gnaniodem Poda, saw Mr. Gyengani commend the CCI-BF's 78-year legacy and acknowledge the contributions of past and present managers in promoting the Burkinabe private sector. He also requested a moment of applause for the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), recognizing their role in maintaining territorial integrity and national sovereignty, which are crucial for economic development.
The minister's representative highlighted the government's aim to fortify the institutional framework of the State and expedite the structural transformation of the national economy. Under President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, Burkina Faso is actively working towards reclaiming its political, economic, and industrial sovereignty.
Mr. Gyengani noted that ongoing reforms within the CCI-BF are intended to modernize and align the institution with national development priorities. He praised the efforts of the special consular delegation under Roland Achille Sow during this period of institutional transition. The reforms are designed to bolster the Chamber's legitimacy and effectiveness.
Addressing the government's expectations, Mr. Gyengani outlined strategic missions for the Chamber, such as enhancing private sector representation, supporting industrialization, and fostering entrepreneurship capable of competing in regional and international markets. He emphasized the need for the Chamber to boost business competitiveness through training, technical assistance, and export support.
He also called for improved governance, closer proximity of services to businesses nationwide, prioritizing SME support, accelerating service digitalization, and promoting economic patriotism and the consumption of local products. Additionally, he urged the CCI-BF to aid economic integration within the Sahel States Alliance (AES) and develop strategic intelligence mechanisms for national companies.
Mr. Gyengani asserted that the challenges Burkina Faso faces present significant opportunities to build a resilient and sovereign economy. He expressed confidence in the Chamber's capacity to overcome these challenges, leveraging its experience and human capital.
Concluding, he wished the institution success in its mission to advance Burkina Faso's economic development. Established on June 11, 1948, the CCI-BF is dedicated to defending and promoting the interests of the private sector in Burkina Faso.
