Burkina Faso Government Reaffirms Commitment to Data-Driven Development

Ouagadougou – On Friday, the Ministry of the Economy declared the Burkinabè government’s renewed dedication to fostering the production and utilization of statistical data, aiming to support a resilient and equitable future across all segments of its population.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Secretary General and representative of the Minister of Economy, Aboubacar Nacanabo, the commitment was reiterated during the commemoration of World Population Day in Ouagadougou. Soulama emphasized the essential role of comprehensive and inclusive data in shaping public policies that address the needs of all population segments. He highlighted the government’s focus on enhancing statistical tools and capacities to better gather and utilize such data.

The government has adopted innovative methods like tablet-based surveys and satellite imagery for more effective mapping and data collection, which Soulama cited as proof of their intent to pursue inclusive development strategies. Alain Akpadji, the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund, praised Burkina Faso for its significant investment in data collection amidst challenging security conditions. He noted that Burkina Faso stands out in the sub-region for incorporating advanced information and communication technologies in its recent demographic census.

This year, Burkina Faso observed World Population Day with the theme “Harnessing the power of inclusive data for a resilient and equitable future for all,” reflecting its commitment to leveraging data for sustainable development.
