Ouagadougou: The government of Burkina Faso has launched a new initiative named “Faso Mêbo” aimed at constructing roads more economically to improve access to isolated regions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was approved by the government on Wednesday. The “Faso Mêbo” program, spearheaded by the Head of State, involves the use of public brigades to build road infrastructure at reduced costs. This strategic move is expected to facilitate quicker and more affordable access to both urban and rural areas, fostering development and integration across the country.
Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, the Minister of State and Government Spokesperson, emphasized that the urgency of improving connectivity necessitated the launch of this initiative. He stated, “Given the urgency of the situation and the need to move faster, the Head of State launched the ‘Faso Mêbo’ initiative, the first component of which will consist of public brigades building road infrastructure at lower costs.”
The initiative is n
ot just aimed at enhancing transport links but is also expected to bolster other governmental efforts, particularly those aimed at food security. “This initiative will accelerate the opening up of cities and the countryside, will improve the success and performance of other initiatives, particularly that for food security, and therefore, the development of populations,” Ouédraogo added.
The government is currently procuring the necessary equipment for the operation of these brigades, indicating swift action and implementation of the project.
