Ouagadougou: In a significant move to enhance urban living standards, the government of Burkina Faso has launched an initiative focused on the construction of decent housing, improved sanitation, and the development of green public spaces. This initiative is part of the broader presidential campaign, “Faso Mêbo,” aimed at addressing the rapid urbanization challenges facing the country.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the decision was made during the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday. The government spokesperson and Minister of State, Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, highlighted the poorly planned urban growth that has plagued Burkina Faso, leading to the proliferation of underserved neighborhoods. “We have cities that continue to expand with many precarious neighborhoods, and the difficulty of providing responses to the needs in basic social services, in terms of roads, sanitation, water, and electricity, is real,” Ouédraogo stated.
The “Faso Mêbo” initiative not only aims to construct new hou
sing but also to ensure these homes meet adequate living standards, thereby significantly improving the quality of life for many residents. This comprehensive urban development strategy is expected to transform the urban landscape of Burkina Faso by integrating essential services and infrastructural enhancements with environmental considerations.
