Ouagadougou: Former MP Viviane Compaor© was murdered by a 26-year-old man who accused her of being responsible for his dismissal and spreading slander about him, as per the suspect's confession reported by the Prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga II High Court, Prosper Thiombiano.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the suspect, Bougma Wendpanga Yannick, is a nephew of the former MP. He was apprehended at the STAF bus station in Gounghin and was under the influence of narcotics at the time of his arrest. After sobering up, Yannick confessed to the crime.
He admitted to entering Compaor©'s home in the early hours of January 10, 2026, by climbing over a wall and waiting inside. After the cleaning lady left and Compaor© returned from morning prayers, Yannick attacked her, using a chokehold, which he referred to as a "padlock," to prevent her from calling for help.
Yannick reportedly accused Compaor© of being the source of his problems while strangling her. He later returned to the scene to confirm her death, using a knife to stab her in the neck and slit her throat.
After committing the crime, Yannick changed into clothes belonging to Compaor©'s son and left the premises, inadvertently leaving his shirt behind. He returned to the bus station, changed again, and discarded the clothes he had taken from the crime scene. He also stole three cell phones, a tablet, 50,000 CFA francs, and a blue handbag from Compaor©.
Yannick claimed the murder was motivated by Compaor©'s role in his dismissal from a transport company and years of alleged slander. He asserted that his family had been in conflict with Compaor©'s family since his childhood.
He also cited past incidents, including his arrest by a self-defense group and subsequent detention at a prison, as contributing factors to his actions. Yannick mentioned his father's summons by Compaor© for alleged slander and denigration.
During the investigation, items belonging to Compaor© were seized from Yannick, including a Motorola phone, two Samsung phones, an ONN tablet, and a blue handbag. The clothing he left at the crime scene was also recovered.
Prosecutor Lafama Prosper Thiombiano praised the investigative team's efforts to clarify the details of this assassination and acknowledged the cooperation of the local population and National Police in combating urban insecurity.
