Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso’s Combatant Forces have successfully repelled several terrorist attacks near the country’s borders, inflicting significant losses on the attackers and recovering equipment, security sources report.
According to Burkina Information Agency, in recent operations, the forces demonstrated resilience and tactical efficiency. In the Boucle du Mouhoun region, a combined patrol of police and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) fiercely resisted an ambush between Tô and Biba. A similar scenario unfolded in the Bilanga area in the East, where the forces overcame the attackers and seized their equipment.
On the morning of January 13, 2024, in the tri-border area, aerial surveillance units detected a long column of terrorists following days of extensive search operations. The attackers, attempting to maneuver under the cover of trees along a river and conceal an armored vehicle in the woods, were intercepted by air strikes.
As the terrorists attempted to flee towards Mali, they were pursued by air vectors. The air strikes were described as efficient and precise, leaving many enemy combatants dead on the battlefield and causing scavengers to appear.
In one instance, attackers sought refuge in an armored vehicle during an aerial assault, hoping to escape post-engagement. However, the vehicle was destroyed by a missile strike.
In a separate incident in the Eastern Forces group region, air vectors identified a pickup truck with terrorists surveilling the Kabonga forest. The pilots waited for an opportune moment before launching an attack that destroyed the vehicle and its occupants.
These recent successes of Burkina Faso’s Combatant Forces highlight their vigilance and effectiveness in combating terrorist threats in the region.
