Burkina Faso Forces Successfully Dismantle Terrorist Hideouts in April Operations

Ouagadougou: The fighting forces in Burkina Faso made significant advances in April, conducting operations that cleared terrorist sanctuaries across various regions. The operations, which were carried out in the North-Central, Eastern, Northern, and East-Central areas, led to the elimination of numerous criminals, recovery of weapons, seizure of animal stock, and the defusal of mines.

According to Burkina Information Agency, April 2026 marked the launch of a comprehensive campaign aimed at reclaiming Burkina Faso's territory. This effort was supported by fire operations for the infantry units. On April 15, an extensive operation commenced in the Boulsa area, with maneuver battalions systematically destroying enemy hideouts from Bogand to Bilanga.

In the Sgunga area, the air force delivered a critical strike while the 14th, 16th, and 8th Rapid Intervention Battalions advanced on the ground. Aircraft identified a large group of criminals gathering for a briefing in a dense forest, resulting in a mass casualty event. Survivors were tracked and eliminated the following day, demonstrating the efficacy of aerial surveillance and targeted strikes.

The campaign continued with an aerial assault on a newly established terrorist lookout in the Blhd area on April 17. Ground units then moved in to clear remaining resistance. On April 19, the 22nd Rapid Intervention Battalion secured Djibo by neutralizing several criminals. Subsequent operations in the Daka area near Tougan on April 23 resulted in the defeat of enemy forces after direct engagements.

The forces anticipated enemy tactics by setting traps. On April 24, the 10th Battalion's special intervention group executed a successful ambush in the Say forest. The following day, the BIR 30 intercepted a column attempting to attack the Soudougui outpost in Nakamb. On April 26, the 22nd Battalion neutralized an enemy reconnaissance group.

The conflict intensified towards the end of April. On April 27, the BIR 26 group conducted an infiltration operation in Datougou, engaging enemy forces. On April 29, the enemy launched a counter-attack on Soudougui, but the BIR 30 swiftly responded and overcame the attackers. Concurrently, BIR 26 executed a night operation in Piga.

A significant assault on the Namoungou base on April 29 was thwarted by ground forces before air support arrived. The drones captured the retreat of the remaining enemy forces. On April 30, a final assault on the Namoungou base was decisively repelled, resulting in heavy enemy casualties and the capture of war materiel.

The operations concluded with BIR 29 completing another successful infiltration, engaging retreating enemy elements. The outcomes of April's operations highlight the ongoing commitment of Burkina Faso's fighting forces to restoring peace and territorial integrity for the benefit of its citizens.
