Burkina Faso Focuses on Strengthening Resilience of Midwives Amid Humanitarian Challenges


OUAGADOUGOU – Burkina Faso’s Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Kargougou, inaugurated the second scientific days of the Burkinabe Association of Midwives and Midwives (ABSFM) on Thursday, focusing on resilience and quality in midwifery practice amid humanitarian crises. The event, scheduled from September 12 to 14, 2024, aims to address the growing challenges faced by healthcare providers in delivering maternal care during humanitarian emergencies.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference emphasizes the need for collaboration among healthcare professionals to adapt to the difficulties imposed by crises. He noted that the scientific days offer an important platform to assess and refine maternal care strategies. The event, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), seeks to strengthen the resilience of midwives and obstetricians and improve maternal health services.



Blanche Zoungrana, president of ABSFM, underscored the importance of harmonizing obstetric practices while integrating scientific research focused on crisis conditions. Zoungrana expressed confidence that the gathering would help healthcare providers respond more effectively to the needs of pregnant women and newborns in challenging environments.



This initiative also aims to foster research and innovation in maternal health, contributing to the overall strengthening of the maternal health system in Burkina Faso. ABSFM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting healthcare professionals in their mission to serve vulnerable populations.
