Burkina Faso Focuses on National Security, Anti-Corruption Efforts, and Football Team Selections


OUAGADOUGOU — Recent discussions on national security, anti-corruption measures, and the selection of national football team players dominated the headlines in Burkina Faso’s dailies on Friday. Government delegations held meetings with key regional forces in the Center-East and Center-West to address security and organizational strategies against national threats. Additionally, significant progress in the country’s fight against corruption was highlighted during the third session of the anti-corruption committee.



According to Burkina Information Agency, government officials met with local populations on Wednesday, August 28, to commend their efforts and discuss further strategies to secure the regions. In the Center-West, communities were urged to establish individual response plans for potential attacks, while in the Center-East, calls were made for unity against external threats.



In another development, Burkina Faso’s fight against corruption was at the forefront of discussions during the third ordinary session of the consultation framework between the Minister of Finance and the anti-corruption committee members. The session, held on Thursday in Ouagadougou, aimed to evaluate the progress made in 2023 and set future directions to enhance the ministry’s anti-corruption efforts. The session revealed that 25 of the 30 official anti-corruption committees reviewed their activities, and 34 cases of denunciations were recorded with the presidency as of August 29, 2024, reported by L’Observateur Paalga.



In sports, the national football team coach announced the selection of 25 players for the upcoming CAN Morocco 2025 qualifiers against Senegal and Malawi. The national selector, referred to only as Brama, has notably left out key players Bertrand Traoré and Issoufou Dayo, opting for new strategies and the return of goalkeeper Hervé Kouakou Koffi.



These varied discussions reflect Burkina Faso’s multifaceted approach to tackling significant national issues from security and corruption to sports, indicating a broad governmental and public engagement across key sectors of society.
