Burkina Faso Expands Diplomatic Horizons Through Partnership Diversification

Ouagadougou: The diversification of partnerships undertaken by the Government has made it possible to break the circles of dependence, open new horizons, and strengthen Burkina Faso's capacity to finance its own development, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo stressed on Friday morning before the national representation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this diversification has materialized in the establishment of diplomatic relations with Kyrgyzstan and the signing of political consultation agreements with Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Hungary, and Serbia. These new avenues, he noted, open up unprecedented prospects for cooperation.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo emphasized that this diversification has also deepened strategic partnerships with the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the People's Republic of China, Turkey, Ghana, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Kingdom of Oman. The head of government made these remarks on Friday, January 30, 2026, during his presentation on the state of the nation before the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT).

He indicated that Burkinabe living abroad "have never severed their ties with the motherland." In addition to current remittances amounting to over 200 billion CFA francs, their contribution to national development resulted, in 2025, in the mobilization of nearly 494 million CFA francs for the Patriotic Support Fund. This represents more than a quarter of voluntary contributions, he noted.

Prime Minister Ouedraogo described the introduction of free visas for all Africans as 'a strong act of Pan-Africanism, a commitment to continental integration, and Burkina Faso's openness to the African people.' He also indicated that, again in the spirit of Pan-Africanism, 'Burkina Faso opened its doors to more than 700 people of African descent and members of the African diaspora from October 25 to November 8, 2025.'

The head of government finally promised that in 2026, "our diplomacy will focus on reorganizing the diplomatic apparatus around the world to take into account geopolitical changes, the effective and visionary exercise of the presidency of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), strengthening the protection of our compatriots abroad as well as mobilizing their skills."
