OUAGADOUGOU — President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has officially announced the commencement of the second phase in Burkina Faso’s ongoing war against terrorism. This new phase focuses on strategic development of terrain and implementing robust measures to counteract terrorist activities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the strategy involves the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), whom he engaged directly in discussions about war tactics on May 23, 2024. The discussions, held in Ouagadougou, led to a call for the VDP to mobilize beyond their local communities to establish strong defensive lines and strategies to effectively corner terrorist forces.
In his role as the Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Captain Traoré also provided advice and guidance to these auxiliary forces, emphasizing the need for self-protection and effective combat strategies. He highlighted the importance of leveraging cultural strengths and strategic insights native to Burkina Faso in their fight against terrorism.
Furthermore, Captain Traoré advised the VDP to avoid the pitfalls of misinformation and the risks associated with social media usage, which could compromise their safety and that of civilians.
To bolster the effectiveness of this campaign, the President announced additional recruitment into the army, with specific opportunities for members of the VDP to integrate further into national defense efforts.
