Burkina Faso Emphasizes Electronic Communications as Key to Social Transformation and Sovereignty.

Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem of Tambèla underscored the significance of electronic communications as a strategic vector for social transformation and a pillar of national sovereignty. Speaking at a national conference on the regulation of electronic communications, he highlighted the dual role of electronic communications in fostering economic development and supporting national sovereignty.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, the Minister in charge of Electronic Communications, delivered the Prime Minister’s speech. She pointed out the ongoing challenges in ensuring quality service, fair pricing, and effective management of complaints despite the sector’s progress. The conference, themed “Strengthening regulation for better quality of service in the electronic communications sector,” aimed to address these issues.

Dr. Zerbo/Sabané emphasized the need for a robust regulatory framework to navigate technological, economic, and security demands. She s
tressed that regulation should transform into a tool guaranteeing operator performance while meeting consumer expectations and national strategic goals.

The minister affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that service providers meet their obligations and maintain service quality, accessibility, and security. She highlighted the importance of transparency, trust, and infrastructure resilience in modern regulation.

Dr. Pasteur Poda, Chairman of the Regulatory Board of the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP), acknowledged the sector’s vital role in Burkina Faso’s economic and social transformation. He pointed out the challenges posed by rapid technological advancements and the surge in digital services.

Dr. Poda assured that regulatory bodies are responsible for fostering an investment-friendly environment while safeguarding citizen interests. He mentioned the formation of a specialized regulatory committee on quality of services in March 2024, tasked with analyzing ser
vice quality issues and proposing solutions.
