OUAGADOUGOU — The government of Burkina Faso has launched an appeal to its citizens to uphold and embrace civic and moral values during the upcoming National Citizenship Week (SENAC), scheduled from October 2 to 16, 2024. The initiative aims to foster peace and social cohesion through active citizen participation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Harouna Kadio, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, emphasized the significance of the event during a press conference in Ouagadougou. He outlined that the theme for this year's SENAC, "For a strong and sovereign nation, let us not betray the homeland," is designed to instill patriotism, integrity, solidarity, and respect for elders among the populace.

The Secretary General detailed the planned activities for the two-week event, which include an intergenerational dialogue, civic education conferences, a day of citizen action, sanitation initiatives, blood donation drives, and sessions sharing experiences with notable figures in Burkina Faso. Kadio also announced the introduction of a citizenship cup to foster collaboration among local institutions and an award for the best civic engagement during SENAC 2024.

Benjamin Sow, the Director General of the Promotion of Citizenship and Peace, highlighted new features for this year's event, such as the inauguration of Star Day and the establishment of ecological clubs. These innovations aim to enhance community unity and environmental awareness among participants.

Initiated in 2004, SENAC seeks to serve as a platform for promoting and ensuring the adherence to the nation’s moral and civic values, critical for the overall stability and development of Burkina Faso.
