Burkina Faso Defense Minister Urges Unity and Action for National Reconquest in Hauts-Bassins

BOBO-DIOULASSO — A high-level government delegation led by Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, the Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans, convened with leaders and influencers of the Hauts-Bassins region on August 31, 2024, to mobilize efforts for the reconquest of national territories threatened by instability.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the mission, sent by President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, emphasized unity, diligence, and transparency as essential components for national stability and progress. The meeting included key figures such as Roger Barro, Minister for Water and Sanitation; Fatimata Bako, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget; Mathias Traoré, Secretary General of the Government and the Council of Ministers; and Mariama Konaté, Governor of the Hauts-Bassins region. The delegation discussed various national challenges and the importance of a unified effort to reclaim and secure Burkina Faso’s sovereignty.

The assembly addressed the critical role of communication and misinformation in the fight against terrorism, cautioning against the divisive potential of social media and advising reliance on official sources for accurate information. The discussions also covered judicial functions, citizen monitoring, and public administration governance, with specific recommendations for improving transparency and efficiency.

The session concluded with acknowledgments of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), recognizing their courage and commitment on the front lines. The economic community, represented by Al-Hassane Siénou, expressed support for the government’s directives and pledged continued assistance for national development initiatives.
